Filip Van Droogenbroeck
Biography
Filip Van Droogenbroeck is a sociologist and assistant professor in the Data Analytics Laboratory at BUTO. He obtained his PhD in Sociology with a dissertation on the end of career and mental health of teachers. Filip has extensive experience in the design, data-collection, analysis, and valorisation of large scale quantitative research such as the 'Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS 2018 Flanders)' and the 'Holocaust Police and Human rights project'. He published over 20 papers in peer reviewed academic journals, contributed to 12 books, and wrote over 12 policy-oriented reports.
His main research interests include sociology of youth, sociology of education, educational policy, and compassion and altruism research. His broader interests are in consciousness and science philosophy with a focus on the mind-body problem. In 2018 he was awarded the European Varela Award for his research project 'Compassionate attitude training in a challenging school context in Brussels.' He is co-founder of the Interdisciplinary Research Project on Compassionate Communities and member of the Compassionate VUB.
